The Position:
The Production Engineer works collaboratively across the organization to develop and design new products and optimize existing products, machinery, tools and equipment. This role is instrumental in driving quality excellence by emphasizing continuous improvement and guiding others within the organization to identify and implement effective quality and safety solutions.
What You Will Do:
- Diagnose and resolve production issues by applying innovative problem-solving techniques and collaborating cross-functionally to implement effective solutions
- Design, draft, test and install new machinery, tools, and processes
- Maintain and optimize existing machinery, equipment and processes
- Conduct risk analyses, verification, validation activities, and formal design reviews, as applicable
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for existing and new processes, procedures, and best practices related to product design, manufacturing, machinery, and equipment
- Analyze production processes, engineering specifications and related information to improve/expand knowledge and implementation of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities
- Drive continuous improvement by integrating quality control tools (e.g., Lean, 5Why, Kaizen, RCA) into processes, leading defect reduction, and optimizing materials to minimize waste.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Director to discover and champion opportunities for new product development and partner across functions to design and execute the product effectively
- Support, promote and advocate for quality achievement and performance improvement across the organization
- Cultivate a strong safety and quality culture by mentoring and supporting cross-functional team members, guiding them to integrate best practices and safety protocols into their daily operations
- Serve as the liaison with customer auditors, ensuring corrective actions align with specifications, while collaborating with QA/QC representatives to guarantee customer satisfaction with company products and services
- Track and monitor waste, rework, NCRs, Quality Notifications and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented to prevent recurrence
- Contribute to the creation of production specifications for distribution to the shop floor
- Maintain awareness of organizational profitability, including budgetary control issues
What You Bring:
- Degree in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized Post Secondary Institution required
- Minimum 5 years experience in Production Engineering required, manufacturing environment preferred
- Experience in quality assurance or quality engineering in a manufacturing environment an asset
- Professional engineering designation or ability to register preferred
- Composites manufacturing processes experience an asset
- Excellent people skills, communication, (written & oral) and Teamwork skills a must
- Project Management and/or Root Cause and Corrective Action skills an asset
- Knowledge/training with various manufacturing and quality philosophies (5S, LEAN, 6-Sigma, JIT, etc.) an asset
- Strong MS Office skills, computer & software skills, ability to learn new software
- Strong problem-solving skills from both a people and systems perspective
- CAD Experience Required (preferably SOLIDWORKS Modeling)
- Proven ability to improve quality outcomes
